This is the kind of thing I’d have loved about a decade ago! It’s actually similar to the contest I won, Strip Search: Revealing Tomorrow’s Top Cartoonists Today, which also involved Andrews McMeel. The “prizes” for this thing are cooler though. I think – that would depend on rights and legalities, really.

I still have an affinity for comic strips but it’s such a dead industry. Hopefully contests like this are a sign they’re going to one day DO something about it.

These might come out better if I spent more time on them. They’re very loose and sketchy and quickly done. I think I’m too impatient to do any serious painting, though.

Kyle Newman, director of Fanboys, sat in on a /filmcast episode discussing District 9. The aftershow was especially interesting where he talks about all he went through with Fanboys, Revenge of the Nerds, and of course Emo Boy! I highly recommend listening to it!
