Sad about Borders closing… I wrote a good chunk of WINTER TOWN at a Borders downing a bunch of pumpkin spice lattes last fall. They were open latest, giving me that extra hour of writing time. I’ve been on a book-buying spree lately, combing the Borders’ carcasses for 70% off gems. Of course sometimes I’d think of something to look for, not find it, and decide yes, now I must pay full-price for it. Here’s a few of my captures:
I was talking to a friend of mine who buys as many books as I do and reads about as slow as I do – I always feel like SOME DAY, not sure when but certainly before I die, SOME DAY everyone I know will leave me, I’ll be 100% alone, and there’s a chance this is an apocalypse situation – there may be a loss of movies and TV – and this is when I’m really going to read ALL THOSE BOOKS. And everyone is going to be miserable and whining and knocking on my door because I was smart enough to stock up on a full library. I’ll be just fine in the apocalypse! I’ll have my books.
It’s kinda like that Twilight Zone episode, where the world ends and that guy finally gets to just read and not be bothered by anyone, and his glasses break. Luckily I am near-sighted.
